History

The station went on the air in March of 1971 as WEIZ.  In 1974, it was acquired October 1974 by Allen Woodall’s Chattahoochee Broadcasting, and was the Beautiful Music formatted sister station to co-owned WDAK.

In November 1986, The Woodfin Group purchased the station from WRFS, Inc., and changed the call letters to WGSY and kicked off a new Oldies based Adult Contemporary format on January 1, 1987 as Sunny 100, playing the Classic Hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.”  The new A/C format generated ratings and revenue success fairly quickly, especially after the arrival of morning show host Dan Brennan.

M&M Partners Inc. purchased this station in July 1996 for approximately $2 million.

On January 18, 2018 (after stunting with Christmas music for three days as "Santa 100"), WGSY launched an urban contemporary format, branded as "Hot 100", with call letters WHTY. In June 2020, WHTY changed formats back to adult contemporary, rebranding as "Sunny 100.1" with the WGSY call letters again.
